Retrospective of Czech Film in Cinematheque

Retrospective of Czech Film will be held May 5-11 in Macedonian Cinematheque, opening Tuesday with "The World Belongs to Us" (1937) by Martin Fric.

The retrospective, organized by the Czech National Film Archive and the Czech Embassy to Skopje, is an overview of Czech cinematography, especially the new wave in the 1960s, which is one of the most influential, most significant and aesthetically most comprehensive film trends in the past century.

The retrospective also includes "Distant Journey" (1950) by Alfred Radok, "A Deadly Invention" (1958) by Karel Zeman, "Intimate Lighting" (1965) by Ivan Passer, "Pearls of the Deep" (1966), short stories by Bohumil Hrabal, directed by Vera Chytilová, Jaromil Jires, Jirí Menzel, Jan Nemec and Evald Schorm, "Daisies" (1966) by Vera Chytilová and "All Good Citizens" (1968) by Vojtech Jasny.

Czech Film Archive director Vladimir Opela will present Wednesday the institution established in 1943, which is one of the biggest film archives in the world.

Moreover, exhibition "Unfocused" of modern photographs by Czech photographer Ladislaw Hovorka will be opened in the Cinematheque gallery.
