Major Excavations Start

Major excavations funded by the Government with about Euro 20 million started yesterday. Teams of archaeologists have already started exploration of unearthed parts of the Heraklea ancient settlement near Bitola under Anica Gjorgievska and Engin Nasuh of the Institute, Museum and Gallery in Bitola.
Yesterday, archaeological teams occupied the Kale Fortress in Skopje. The work is headed by Professor Dragi Mitrevski. Furthermore, revelation of secrets of the Stobi settlement outside Gradsko has also begun with Archaeologist Silvana Blazevska at the head of the excavations. The fourth site being funded is Isar site near the village of Marvinci, Valandovo area. The team working there is led by Zlatko Videski, Archaeologist of the Museum of Macedonia who left there at the weekend to make preliminary field work. According to Pasko Kuzman, Director of the Directorate for Protection of Cultural Heritage, the sites are expected to be completely explored.
