Sultan Resad V visited Bitola in 1911. He stayed in the house of the first general of the Turkish Army. Today historical city archives can be found in this house.

 

 

 

 

Giuseppe Verdi

Giuseppe VerdiGiuseppe Verdi came to Bitola just for few weeks, as a guest to the Italian consul. Today in Bitola, the house where he stayed during his holiday is turned into a private museum, where one can see his piano.

 

 

 

 

Branislav Nusic (1864-1938)
Branislav Nusic was one of the most famous writers, narrators, comedy writers, and academicians in the Balkans. He first lived in Bitola in the capacity of a consul of the Serbian Kingdom, while the second time he returned as a manager of civil servants.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
He was born in Thessaloniki in 1881. His father’s name was Ali Riza and his mother's name was Zuleikha. His father died when Kemal was just a young boy. When he was 17 he came to Bitola from Thessaloniki. He was a very quiet person, a poet, and a good painter. He stayed in Bitola until the end of the Turkish occupation. After 1910, he returned to Bitola as the head of the third Turkish army, but didn’t stay long. Only after a few months he returned to Thessaloniki.
