Situated in the western part of Macedonia in the Upper Polog region, the town of Gostivar has an exceptional geographical position, since it is on the western Macedonian highway, connecting the town and its surroundings with the capital Skopje (67km distance) on one side and the town of Ohrid (107km) on the other. |
  Due to changes in its economy and the continuingly increasing birth rate (according to the latest census of 2002, the town has 49,545 inhabitants), many handcrafts were revived during the second half of the 19th century.
